Japanese Twits Shut Down Twitter By Setting Record For Most Tweets Per Second

"Social networking site Twitter said its services were unavailable for more than an hour in Japan as users in the country made a record number of tweets."

UPI

The Japanese twits sent a record 16, 197 tweets per second after midnight on New Year`s Day. This stunt was counter-productive, they may have set a world record, but they prevented Twitter fans from accessing the popular microblogging site for more than an hour.

Users around the world were unable to post messages, thanks to the Twitter-happy Japanese. I hope no other group tries to surpass their record, many of use use Twitter to promote our businesses or Web sites, and we can`t afford to be absent from Twitter for an extended period of time.

I hope that next New Year`s Eve the Japanese do something more sensible, like trying to set a record for how many shots of whisky they consume in the hour after midnight. On further review, perhaps not! They might set a record for how many times toilets are flushed in Japan, and there might not be enough water available to flush toilets.
