John Edwards Sex Tape To Be Shredded! Edwards Ruined, Democracy Will Survive

By Robert Paul Reyes

"The sex tape of John Edwards and his mistress is headed to the shredder, but a long list of criminal charges still hangs over the former presidential candidate over the extramarital affair that ended his political career.

Rielle Hunter sued former Edwards aide Andrew Young and his wife in 2010 over the tape of "a personal and private nature" and other intimate items the couple said she left in a box of trash. Hunter lived with the Youngs while she was pregnant with Edwards` baby, hiding out as the former North Carolina senator ran for the White House. Young, a longtime aide to Edwards, initially said he was the father."

Most Americans take their civic responsibility seriously, and they invest a lot of time researching the candidates. I`m not even a Republican, but I`ve watched all 20 Republican debates.

In these perilous times when the price of oil is soaring, and the Iran nuclear crisis may erupt in a regional war, it`s incumbent on the electorate to know were the candidates stand on the critical issue of the day.

John Edwards did not take our democratic process seriously, in the midst of the 2008 presidential campaign he was engaged in an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter. From a moral perspective it`s a damning indictment that he was cheating on his wife who was dying of cancer.

But from a pragmatic viewpoint it`s unbelievable that Edwards took such a huge risk, he very well knew that rumors were floating around, and that reporters were monitoring his every step.

John Edwards is renowned for his vanity, and I`m not surprised he made a sex tape with his mistress. But didn`t he consider that if the sex tape ever saw the light of day that it would destroy his reputation and career?

What was Rielle thinking, leaving the sex tape in box of trash, if she had any sense she would have burned it and then buried the ashes.

After two years of legal wrangling, and hundreds of thousands wasted by both sides, the tape will finally be destroyed. Thank goodness we will never see Edwards having sex with his mistress on the Internet.

The reputations of Edwards and Rielle have been shattered, but the democratic process can and will survive the moral failings of Edwards and his ilk.
