Payton The Dog Saves Family From Burning Home

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A 2-year-old Labrador retriever saved his family from a fire, barking until they woke up and got out of the Plainfield home safely.
`
`The time we got out, the flames were all over the house,` Sharon Berger said. Berger and her youngest son were sleeping downstairs in their home in the 16000-block of South River Road when her 13-year-old son, Alex, woke them. He said their dog, Payton, had alerted him to the fire.

We think we are doing a pooch a favor when he looks at us with sad eyes, and we adopt him from the animal shelter.

But a dog, whether he`s a puppy or an adult, will repay us with love for many years to come. A canine is extremely loyal to his family, and he will protect us from burglars, and in this case from a fire.

It`s never a good idea to ignore a mutt when he barks, there`s usually a solid reason why he`s making a noise. Unless of course you have a tiny dog who barks his fool head off for no discernable reason.

The home was almost entirely destroyed by the fire, but if the couple had got up the first time the dog had barked, perhaps they could have put it out with a fire extinguisher.

Alls well that ends well, the important thing is that the entire family, including Payton, got out of the burning inferno safely.
