Steve McQueen's Legacy: The Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show

Steve McQueen's Legacy: The Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show

By Tony Piazza

Last weekend I was a presenter at the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show Dinner, Friday June 1, 2012. It was a well attended event, that also included an auction. The show was the brainchild of Ron Harris, who started it five years ago. The car show followed on Saturday- last year the theme was "Le Mans"- this year, "Bullitt."  I was on location with "Bullitt" forty-four years ago, and watched many of the scenes being filmed, including its now famous chase. I also got to meet back then its iconic star, STEVE McQUEEN.

As a result, I wrote an e-book entitled, "Bullitt Points" which chronicles my personal experiences. Mr. McQueen was extremely kind to me, and my family back then, and that was why I decided to donate the earnings from the e-book to Steve McQueen`s favorite charity, The Boys Republic. This school is credited for turning the troubled young McQueen into the legendary star we know of today. In his lifetime he contributed time and money to this cause as a "thank you" for what he had become.

Chad McQueen is continuing the good work started by his father. I was able to spend some time with Chad and discuss "Bullitt Points," his dad, and present him with a DVD I made of my 8mm movie which my father and I shot on location during the final day of shooting on "Bullitt"...the climax of the chase.
If you are interesting in supporting the Boys Republic, and getting a nifty e-book which tells the story of "Bullitt" with my own personal photographs from the set in 1968, please go to:

100% of the .99 cent donation goes to The Boys Republic. I do not see a cent!
