Hurricane Sandy: US Needs Rally Points for Power Workers and National Guard

Hurricane Sandy: US Needs Rally Points for Power Workers and National Guard

By Harvey Carroll, Jr.

I watched the briefings of Governor Christy of NJ, Governor Como of NY as well as NY Mayor Bloomberg. I have concluded Power is the Priority.

Having participated in large-scale security projects in NJ and NY in the past that allowed me to travel all the affected areas, I offer the following suggestions.

I SUGGEST PRESIDENT OBAMA/FEMA ORGANIZE AIRPORT HOTEL RALLY POINTS FOR POWER WORKERS, AND NATIONAL GUARD PERSONNEL FROM OTHER STATES.

JFK will be open tomorrow and other State Airports will follow in the coming days. I would ask that every state that can participate and organize Security Rally Points for Power and Emergency Workers at their Regional/State Airports. From there they can travel to JFK and the other Airports as they become open and receive assignment locations to target and restore power.

I would ask that the National Guard organize AIRPORT RALLY POINTS and accommodations at local Airport Hotels and/or National Guard Shelters, provide meals and transportation. I would also suggest that RENTAL VEHICLES along with DRIVERS that is very familiar with the area to be ready to drive.

Emergency/Power Workers to work sites and back to accommodations and also assist with finding work-site food. All should be given cell phones and/or exchange numbers to assist in the ease of the process.

Thank you and I hope that my suggestions are considered.
