Norman the Scooter Dog Officially Sets Guinness World Record: Video

By Robert Paul Reyes

"`Norman the Scooter Dog,` as he is known, was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records on Sunday for a feat he achieved in his hometown of Marietta, Ga., in July.

Norman and his owner Karen Cobb were presented with a certificate by a Guinness official for the "fastest 30 meters on a scooter by a dog` on the `Today` show.

The 3-year-old French sheepdog had wowed spectators with his performance at a Marietta gym three months ago in a time of 20.77 seconds."

My pooch, Mandy, can`t sit, roll over or play dead on command; I gave up trying to teach her any tricks a long time ago.

But Mandy doesn`t need any training or encouragement to express her love for me, with a wag of her tail and a sloppy lick she brightens my day.

However I do appreciate dog owners who have the patience and perseverance to teach their pets tricks. Karen Cobb has trained her French sheepdog to ride bikes, scooters and skateboards. Norman`s talents have led to made him a TV star, with his own show on the Hallmark channel.

If you adopt a canine from your local animal shelter you probably won`t be able to teach him how to ride a scooter, you will be lucky to teach him how to retrieve a ball. But I guarantee he will fill your life with fun and love.
