Parents: For God's Sake Don't Neglect to Give your Children Middle Names!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Middle names are often an afterthought when it comes to naming your baby. But according to a new study, published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, parents could put their little one on the path to success if they choose to give her a middle initial(s).

`The display of middle initials increases the perceived social status of...people, and positively biases inferences about their intellectual capacity and performance," said psychologists Wijnand A.P Van Tilburg, of the University of Southampton and Eric R. Igou, of the University of Limerick. Am I the only one who finds it funny that one of the authors has multiple middle name initials?!"

Many Hispanic families give their children multiple middle names, but my parents neglected to bestow me with a middle name. A Latino with no middle name is like a redneck without two childish first names, naturally I felt culturally deprived growing up.

When I was a senior in high school, I rectified the grave injustice and I gave myself the middle name "Paul." " Robert Paul Reyes" is a bold and masculine name, and I always use my full name when I post an article online.

Parents if you don`t want your children to grow up to be shiftless bloggers, for God`s sake bless them with middle names.

Even if your children don`t use their middle names, but as long as they use their middle initial it imbues them with prestige and class.

I, Robert Paul Reyes, urge parents to give their children a leg up on success by giving them middle names.
