Sony Pictures seeks to bring 'Summer' back into horror

By Garrett Godwin

This fall, Jennifer Love Hewitt returns to CBS to enter the mind of serial killers as the newest profiler on Criminal Minds.

But over a decade ago, the former Ghost Whisperer was the target of one in I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is about to get a reboot thanks to Sony Pictures, according to Deadline.

The film, which is also starred future real-life spouses Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Ryan Philippe, followed four friends whose pact to keep quiet over a murder comes back to haunt them when a guy with a slicker seeks revenge against them.

Like fellow Party of Five alumni Neve Campbell did with the Scream films, I Know What You Did Last Summer kept the teen horror genre going throughout the late 1990s.  Released a year after the original Scream, the film spawned I Still Know What You Did Last Summer with Brandy, who was also breaking out on the small screen with Moesha as well as on the music charts, in which Love sung the sequel`s theme, `How Do I Deal`.

Criminal Minds begins its tenth season Wednesday, October 10 at 9pm.
