SOP Word of the Day: Discover

SOP Word of the Day: Discover

By Keith Johnson

The word "discover" is a transitive verb that means "to uncover, to find out, to expose". If you look at the word from its literal side, dis means "without" and cover means "concealment". So, literally, this word means "without concealment", or "revealed", but in the form of a transitive verb.

Sample Sentences using Discover:

Nobody really knows who discovered the Americas. It could have been Columbus. It could have been the Vikings. It could have been the East Asians.

I will discover the cause of this delay. We need to get this project completed soon.

The student discovered a new bio-chemical process in Chemistry class today.

As long as we learn and discover new things, life remains exciting and amazing.

Best Regards and Happy New Year 2015!
