Nile Rodgers & Chic Sign New Deal! Good Times Are Here Again?

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Freak out! Nile Rodgers and Chic are back, officially. I knew some time ago that Rodgers was signing up with Warner Music, and now it`s official. A new Chic album is due shortly. Rodgers signed a deal with Warners, and they will distribute all the new music from his label Land of the Good Groove."

Niles Rogers composed "Good Times" and it was recorded by his band Chic for their 1970 album "Risqué."   "Good Times" became a monster hit, and it seemed that the good times would never end for Nile Rodgers and Chic.

The hit song became one of the most sampled tunes in music history, most notably recreated in The Sugarhill Gang`s 1979 hit "Rapper`s Delight."

But good times always have an expiration date, the disco ball crashed and burned, the endless supply of cocaine ran out, and Chic stopped cranking out hits.

Nile Rodgers remained a very successful producer, but he stopped having hits as a solo artist and as a member of Chic.

Can Nile Rodgers recreate the good times of Chic in their heyday in the 1970`s? The female members of Chic were hot chicks in the 70`s, but today they`re old hens. Nile Rogers is a bit long in the tooth, and he just can`t cut it today`s youth-oriented pop world.

I wish Rodgers continued success as a record producer, but unfortunately he`s only going to stain the legacy of Chic by reviving the band.
