"The Milwaukee Art Museum will display a portrait of Pope Benedict XVI made entirely out of condoms. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is calling it a `callous decision,` but the artist who created it says it`s fulfilling its intended purpose.
Niki Johnson created the portrait titled Eggs Benedict. It is woven together with 17,000 latex condoms."
The artist`s masterpiece was inspired by the retired pope`s comments about the potential for contraception to increase the spread of AIDS. Johnson described her artwork as an act of protest.
To declare that condoms increase the spread of HIV is patently false, just the opposite is true; the pope`s remarks are bullcrap.
The critics of Johnson`s portrait of Pope Benedict should be grateful that she used condoms instead of feces to create her masterpiece.
The current pope is more enlightened than his immediate predecessor; perhaps Pope Francis will invite Johnson to display her work at the Vatican.
