Yoga Has Gone to the Dogs! Practice Doga With Your Pooch! Video!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"If you`ve ever noticed your dog stretching out its front or back legs then you know there is a connection between dogs and yoga. Those stretches are mimicked in most yoga practices, forming the cornerstone poses of upward and downward dog. Many animal-like poses are featured in yoga, but it isn`t overly practical to do yoga with a cow or a lion, so why not corral your domesticated furry friend instead? That`s right, doga; yoga for dogs!

You can practice doga one of two ways, with your dog as an active participant, or by simply allowing it to visit with other dogs in the class as your perform your asanas. Doga can be practiced at home with your dog, or by attending a class for other dog owners."

I have two cats and a dog, and I`ve noticed that they spend an inordinate time stretching out their legs, in a way that`s reminiscent of humans practicing yoga. Even my 25-pound cat, Tico, likes to stretch out, when he`s not sleeping or eating.

My pooch does everything with me, from eating dinner to walking to running errands with me. If I ever take up yoga, I guarantee that my pooch will be stretching right along with me.

There may be doga classes in California or New York, but in my neck of the woods in rural Virigina, needless to say, there aren`t any. But thank goodness there`s a Web site where you can learn basic doga positions:

I`m not ruling out practicing doga with my pooch, but I will never don skin-tight yoga pants. This country boy doesn`t roll that way!
