November 17 is National Black Cat Day: Video

By Robert Paul Reyes

"November 17 is National Black Cat Day!

Whether it`s due to myths and superstition, or because they might not stick out in a room full of colorful cats - black cats have the lowest adoption rate and the highest euthanasia rate of all adoptable cats. That`s why days like National Black Cat Day are so important."

Fox 32

Black cats are bad luck!

Black cats are evil!

Black cats are possessed by demons!

These statements are patently false, but it is true that black cats have the lowest adoption rate, the highest euthanasia rate, and they are more abused than any other cats, especially on Halloween.

I have two black cats: Ebony my sweet indoor cat who fills each day with sunshine and Blackie a stray cat who graces me with her company almost every day.

On National Black Cat Day I am showering Ebony with hugs and kisses, and if Blackie visits me I will give her all the tuna she can eat.

There are plenty of adorable kittens available for adoption at your local animal shelter, including some precious black ones. It would be terrific if you adopted a black cat on National Black Cat Day.
