David Bowie: In Memoriam

By Robert Paul Reyes

This morning I woke up to the sad news that David Bowie the English singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger, painter, actor, fashionista, chameleon and beloved pop icon had died of cancer.

From vinyl records, to cassettes to CD`s to streaming music Bowie has been the soundtrack of my life from an adolescent to a senior citizen. From art rock to disco to heavy metal to pop to experimental, -- whatever genre Bowie tackled and mastered, he always captured my soul and my imagination.

Bowie went through many changes and transformations, he had several alter egos, but his core was pure rock and roll.

Bowie was a musician first and foremost, and he continued to produce and release music right until the end, his latest album Blackstar was released just three days ago on his birthday.

Neither cancer or drugs or personal demons could extinguish his genius.

The world has lost a legend, an icon, a diva, but his music will continue to serve as the soundtrack of my life until I`m dead and gone.
