"A stunningly distracted crowd of hundreds of Republicans almost entirely ignored Ted Cruz`s speech at the New York City GOP gala on Thursday night, instead chattering at their dinner tables, standing and taking selfies. Several casually left the dinner altogether.
The crowd`s stark disregard for Cruz`s remarks followed months of controversy over Cruz`s suggestion in January that Donald Trump has `New York values.`"
When Ted Cruz disparaged "New York Values" during a debate in January, he was seeking immediate gratification from the red meat-hungry debate audience. Cruz never imagined that the presidential campaign would still be undecided in April, and that he would be forced to campaign in the Empire State.
I was born in San Francisco, and I live in Virginia and like millions of other Americans I respect and admire the values of resilience and fortitude that the citizens of New York displayed in the aftermath of September, 11, 2001.
Only a tone-deaf politician who is out of step with the American mainstream would condemn "New York Values", and Cruz is paying a price for his reckless statement.
Even New York Republicans can`t stand Ted Cruz, they paid him the ultimate insult when they chatted, took selfies and walked away during his speech at the New York City GOP Gala.
There is no place in America, or even in the Republican Party, for Ted Cruz and his Neanderthal anti-women, anti-gay and lesbian, and anti-progressive values.
